About Amos

My name is Amos Lee and I’m a trumpeter, conductor, music arranger and a brass tutor.

Amos Lee Ka Yiu embarked on his musical journey with his first trumpet lesson at the tender age of 13. In 1991, he began his studies under the esteemed Mr. Jonathan Fields (winner of the 1992 International Toulon Trumpet Competition) at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, earning his Diploma in 1993. He then studied with Mr. Brian Thomson, principal trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1996. During 1994 and 1995, Amos’s exceptional talent secured him a spot in the Asian Youth Orchestra, performing across various cities in Asia and the United States. In October 1995, Amos led the Academy Brass Quintet to London for a performance at the Hong Kong Festival. With the support of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund, he pursued further studies with Mr. Edmund Cord at Indiana University, where he earned his Master of Music Degree in 1999.

Currently, Amos is an active figure in both teaching and performing in Hong Kong. His involvement spans diverse projects, including the Hong Kong Arts Festival, the Macau Arts Festival, studio recordings, musical productions, and orchestra/band performances. Amos frequently appears as a soloist, continuously enchanting audiences with his performances. In 2000, Amos co-founded the Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra with friends, leading the ensemble to numerous international festivals and competitions, including the CISM and mid-Europe Winds Competition (2010) and the World Music Contest Kerkrade (WMC) in Holland (2014, 2017). Today, Amos serves as the orchestra/band director for several secondary and primary schools in Hong Kong.
